Atlanta by Six

To fulfill our mission of enriching lives through great music, even when a full symphony orchestra just is not feasible, the CSO formed Atlanta by Six, comprised of the principal string players of the orchestra and Conductor, Terry Lowry.

Atlanta by Six is an innovative chamber music ensemble formed by an accomplished group of energetic and dynamic musicians who share a compelling vision of the classical music experience. Intending to expand its technical and artistic excellence into new concert spaces and artistic horizons, they sculpt their performances from a unique blend of classical and contemporary compositions and improvisations on themes provided by the audience- all making for a unique and interactive experience for audience and musicians alike.

Atlanta by Six is comprised of Atlanta-area professional musicians who regularly perform with the Atlanta Opera, Atlanta Ballet, Carroll Symphony, Georgia Symphony, Ashville Symphony, Huntsville Symphony, and Rome Symphony Orchestras.

The members of Atlanta by Six are Terry Lowry (piano), Edward Eanes (violin), Joe Lester (viola), David Lloyd (cello), Todd Markey (double bass), and Todd Mueller (percussion).

Meet Atlanta by Six….in our own words

Edward Eanes (violin)
I’m currently the Concertmaster of the Georgia Symphony and the Carroll Symphony (with my colleagues in Atlanta By Six).  I’m also a member of the Atlanta Opera Orchestra and have recently given the pre concert lectures for the last two productions.   My day job is as Associate Professor of Music History at Kennesaw State University.  Violin and music history are my two loves, so I’m lucky to be able to earn a living doing both.

Joe Lester (viola)
I have been involved in music for my entire life. I am so happy to have grown up with musical parents and grandparents. Musical styles have always peaked my interest, whether it be "classical music" of Latin America, or progressive rock, or big band music, or anything in between. The different sounds and different settings of music have always been the turn on for me. I have performed with many orchestras in the region and gotten to work with many different players and conductors. Playing chamber music, or improvising, or playing in rock bands are outlets that i have always wanted more of.

It is always fun to play in different situations or simply to play familiar music for different settings. I am excited to be a part of Atlanta by Six to continue this journey of different styles in different settings....

David Lloyd (cello)
I'm an active freelance cellist who plays regularly with several performing groups in the Southeast and Atlanta area. Currently performing as principal cellist with the Georgia Symphony, I have been fortunate to have played with the Carroll Symphony, Atlanta Symphony, Chattanooga Symphony and various chamber groups. I enjoy reaching out to new audiences and playing repertoire that includes traditional and contemporary music in alternative spaces.

Todd Markey (bass)
I am a bass player and composer who has been performing and teaching in the Atlanta area for about ten years.  I perform in the Carroll Symphony and Johns Creek Symphony as well the the Tango Orchestra Club Atlanta.  I enjoy performing a wide variety of music including classical, jazz, latin, and avant garde styles.  My other interests include poker, economics, real estate, and political philosophy.

Todd Mueller (percussion)
My passion is music.  I don't limit myself to specific genres.  I currently perform with Atlanta by Six, The Odd Trio (Experimental Jazz), and the Arasmas Percussion Group.  I am principal percussionist with the Carroll Symphony and Principal Timpanist with the Asheville Symphony. When I am not playing I teach music classes at Georgia Gwinnett College.

Terry Lowry (piano)
I am a composer and the pianist for Atlanta by Six. I am really excited about this new group. The members are extremely gifted and we have a great time playing together. Its a lot of fun to play new music in new places and meet wonderful people along the way.

When I'm not playing with Atlanta by Six, I stay busy with solo recitals and as Conductor and Music Director of the Carroll Symphony Orchestra. The CSO is a regional, professional orchestra just west of Atlanta. I've been with the CSO since 2002 and love it. Its a great orchestra with a commitment to educational outreach programs and to new music. We've premiered over 100 new works in just 12 years - many of them by student composers!
